Windows Mail setup for MyMail

Windows Mail is pre-installed with Windows Vista.  To launch program, click on Start | Programs | Windows Mail.

  1. On the menu bar click Tools | Accounts
  2. From Internet Accounts window, click on Addinternet account window
  3. Select E-mail Account and click on Next.account type window
  4. Type in your name and click Next.display name window
  5. Type in your York e-mail address in the following format address window
  6. Select IMAP from the drop menu.

  7. Click Next.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Finish.
  10. Highlight Mail Server Name and select Properties.server name


  11. Select the Advanced tab from Properties Window.
    1. Check mark box “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)“.
    2. For Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings – follow one of the two options below:
      1. If you are using an internet connection at York:Outoing Mail (SMTP) Port: 587Note that in most cases using York’s SMTP server will work even if you are not using York as your Internet Service Provider.



      2. If you are using another ISP such as Rogers, Bell, etc., then you can contact your ISP for their outgoing mail server settings
    1. Incoming mail (IMAP) set port to 993
    2. Check mark box “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)“.

    ** NOTE ** 

    Using port 587 will cause the following error message every time Windows Mail client is in use. Click ‘Yes’ to continue using the window server.

  12. Select the IMAP tab from Properties Window.Modify Root folder path: INBOX. (Ensure this is typed in upper case followed a period)

  13. Click OK.
  14. Click Close.
